Postdoctoral positions in astroparticle physics (Pierre Auger project) at the Radboud University Nijmegen

We invite applications for two postdoctoral positions in astroparticle physics at the Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Our group is involved in the Pierre Auger project to measure the properties of the highest-energy cosmic rays. The two successful candidates will work on the radio upgrade of the Pierre Auger observatory for up to four years. The radio detection of air showers is supported by the European Research Council with an Advanced Grant and by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research. The successful candidates are expected to play a leading role in the development, construction, deployment, commissioning, and calibration of the new radio detector systems at the Pierre Auger observatory. They are expected to make significant contributions to the analysis of the properties of cosmic rays in order to clarify the origin of the highest-energy particles in the Universe. Applicants should have a PhD in (astroparticle) physics and experience in detector development for astroparticle physics as well as, ideally, a background in the Pierre Auger project or the radio detection of air showers.

The Department of Astrophysics at Radboud University is part of the Institute of Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics (IMAPP). The vibrant and international department consists of 13 faculty, ~15 postdocs and engineers, ~30 PhD students, and ~10 Master students. Research activities focus on high-energy astro(particle)physics, cosmic rays, black holes, gravitational waves, stellar and binary evolution, star clusters and the Milky Way.

To apply, please email your application documents (in one pdf file) to j.horandel@ astro.ru.nl, mentioning "PostDoc2018" in the subject line. The documents should include a succinct cover letter, CV, list of publications, and a detailed research statement. Also, please arrange for two letters of reference to be emailed to j.horandel@astro.ru.nl with "PostDoc2018" in the subject line. In case of questions, please contact Jörg Hörandel (http://particle.astro.ru.nl). by email j.horandel@astro.ru.nl or phone +31 24 36 52 802.
Complete applications received by 25 November 2018 will receive full consideration.

The positions are part of the collective labour agreement (CAO) of the Dutch universities and research institutes, with gross/month salaries starting at 2514 Euro, depending on the experience of the candidate. The Faculty of Science at Radboud University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, and as such strongly encourages applications from women and minorities. Priority will be given to applicants from underrepresented groups in case of equal qualifications. University positions in the Netherlands include good medical and social benefits (including maternity and paternity leave and child care) plus holiday and end-of-year bonuses.
